Nomos is returning to their most popular release of the year this week with a pair of limited edition Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer references called the Roam and Reverie. This is a brand known for the ability to breathe new life into simple designs with the thoughtful application of unique color palettes and materials, and that’s exactly what we find here. The Club Sport neomatik Worldtimer was a smash hit when it was introduced at Watches & Wonders earlier this year, and it’s already established itself as a highly versatile design. The Roam and the Reverie yield yet another complexion within the design thanks to a champagne colored base dial.

Inspiration for these new Worldtimers comes from enjoying the experience of the journey as much as the destination, a fitting theme given the complication at hand. The beauty is in the details of the colorway, and the way it’s been implemented. The Roam dial “conveys an inspiring sense of openness with accents in blue, green, and orange” while the Reverie dial “combines sand, ocher, burgundy, and yellow for a charismatic, versatile appearance”. These descriptions from Nomos themselves dials up the romance, but there is a true charm to each of these dials.

Nomos has a strong sense of using colors in small ways that add up to a big difference. The unusual palette at work here is right in their wheelhouse, and in fact I’d say the sunray finished champagne dials are the most out of character element for the brand. That’s not to say they don’t work, they bring an entirely new sense of the design to bear, standing in stark contrast to the Night Navigation series that pushed the design into Tron territory. The Roam and Reverie are quite romantic in comparison, while their respective colors bring to mind a very different sense of cinema.

Adding to this effect is the horween shell cordovan strap that these watches are fitted with. Roam gets a black strap, while Reverie sports a brown. The original collection launched with a three link bracelet design, which I’m sure would work well with these two dials, but the straps are a big part of the story of what makes these watches unique. In fact, I’m hard pressed to think of a Nomos watch that straps like this wouldn’t work on.

Nomos is using their automatic in-house caliber DUW 3202 here, as you’d expect, and it remains visible through an open caseback. The timezone can be changed with the press of the button above the crown in a satisfying engagement that brings the dial to life. Both of these watches are limited to 250 units planned for production. Both are priced from $5,000. Nomos

This is a rare case where I don’t love Nomos’ colour choices. I think the issue is mostly in the 24 hour dial. The dun, burgundy, & green colours used there clash with the champagne dial in a way that I don’t love.
Otherwise this is still a very compelling watch.
