G-SHOCK Nano DWN5600 is a 5600 for the Finger

Do we really need little versions of our watches to wear on our fingers? Absolutely not. Are they fun? Yes. Sometimes you have to step back and remember not to take yourself too seriously, and this trend of digital finger watches offers the perfect opportunity to do just that. I cannot imagine a practical scenario where I’d need one of these, but I kind of want them all. The new Nano DWN5600 collection G-Shock brings their most iconic design down to about 10 percent of its original size, and without really losing any of the vast functionality (other than, you know, being able to wear it on your wrist). It even has a 200 meter depth rating.

The 5600 is the most recognizable design language of the G-Shock formula, and it’s become engrained in not only watch culture, but fashion culture in its own unique way. Rendering it at this scale is proof of that, and it should come as no surprise that it holds up pretty well, even at this scale. The collection is being released in red, black, and yellow, and while I am not the type to create holiday gift guides for clicks, the release of these bad boys is pretty well timed. Not a coincidence I’m sure.

These bit sized G-Shocks still feature a suite of complications that can be accessed through working buttons along the side of the case, exactly where you’d find them on the regular sized reference. From calendars and alarms, to dual time modes and a stopwatch, it’s all there, and even the LED backlight remains. And yes, it’s still shock resistant to the same standard. Actually using those features while the watch is on your finger is another story, and one that I frankly can’t speak to.

Unlike some of the other ring watches that have come out recently, the Nano DWN5600 watches uses a pin buckle strap exactly like the larger model, so you’ll have to find the appropriate size for your finger, fix the strap in place, and then slide it on. Might be a bit tricky to get it sorted while on the finger itself. I love these small details, and it makes these more than just finger bound devices, as I could see all of them being great all around accessories. My teenage kid has a habit of putting kicks and knacks on his backpack as well as the belt loops of his jeans, and these will make great ‘flavor’ additions to your kit.

The full collection of Nano G-Shocks ref DWN5600 will be available for purchase beginning December 12th, and each will be priced at $110. A better stocking stuffer I can’t imagine. G-Shock
