Kollokium Projekt 2 Goes Dark with Variant B

Kollokium is one of the most conceptually interesting young brands operating today, with watches that challenge our perceptions of how we read time against a dial under a crystal. After the release of the Projekt 01 in late 2023 and a subsequent array of variants, Kollokium followed it up with, well, Projekt 02 in 2025, featuring a topographic dial built up with the use of literal layers. This week, we’re getting a Variant B of this design, and where the original was white, Variant B takes a darker route with layers that feature a subtle shift from black to grey as the dial increases in elevation.

This Variant B feels like a natural evolution of the original vision of this Projekt watch, expressing a different tonal range that shifts how the design reacts to light and shadow. While all dials shift with the light conditions, the Projekt 02 takes it to another level. The dial is built up using 67 individual dial plates that begin as black and end up as grey, a look reminiscent of the Air Max 95 Black Grey which uses a similar transition along the upper. This execution creates deep valleys and sharp peaks which create shadows unlike anything you might be used to when viewing a watch. With this gradient, the darks are amplified, creating further drama in an organic manner.

The hours are represented by twelve peaks that form around the perimeter, but no other chapter ring or indexing can be found. In fact, the signifiers really only become visible when taken at a distance. It’s a bit like the Projekt 01 in that regard. The hand set remains unchanged, with ‘floating’ outlines and a colorful seconds hand, which has been rendered in bright green for this variant.

All of this is set within the now familiar ‘pitri dish’ style case with a tall glass box style sapphire crystal that allows for viewing of the dial at unusual angles. The die-cast steel case measures 39.5mm in diameter, and just north of 12mm in total thickness, though it sits quite snug against the wrist thanks to the low profile of the case below the crystal. The case gets a uniform blasted finish, and while the shape itself is interesting, it does a good job of highlighting the dial as the focal point. Inside remains the La Joux-Perret G101 automatic movement.

Kollokium will produce 299 examples of the Variant B, and it will be publicly available beginning Monday, March 16th, with subscribers and current owners getting first crack the weekend prior. But that’s not all. There will be a single prototype example of the watch which will be auctioned via Marteau & Co. with the proceeds going to the Musée International d’Horlogerie (MIH) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. Bidding for prototype #01 will start on March 12th and run until March 19th. Kollokium
