NOMOS Celebrates the Tangente with 31 Color Compositions

Nomos created one of the most vibrant booth spaces at Watches & Wonders this year thanks as a temple to their collection of Tangente watches, which boasts no less than 31 unique color combinations. The new collection is a celebration of the Tangente date model, and Nomos has gone beyond mere dial colors, but has created color compositions using components of the dial and date disc as the palette. Each of the 31 colors tells a story, and gets a unique name imbuing a personality all its own, and each brings a surprising level of versatility to the otherwise demure design language.

Creating 31 unique colorways for the Tangente Date correlates to the possible days in a month, and places emphasis on Nomos’ own DUW4101 which places the date disc at the perimeter of the movement, sitting flush with the mainplate allowing for thinner dimensions. Furthermore, the date disc itself plays a broader role here in executing the color scheme, and is used in creating ways to express the composition. Some of the colorways, such as the Lakritze and Nachtgesang create something of a focal point with their use of color within the date disc.

Nomos is known almost just as much for their subtle but powerful bauhaus design language as they are their watchmaking, and this new collection highlights this ability, which extends to creating interesting color palettes. The colors at work here feel intentional, but not one of them feels generic in nature. The colors often veer into the pastel, and nearly all of them invite a closer look to experience their tones up close, even if it’s merely the color of the Arabic numerals around the dial, or a chapter ring at the perimeter.

This collection is also a celebration of 175 years of watchmaking in Glashuette, a small town not from the border of Czechia that houses some of Germany’s finest maisons, from Nomos to A. Lange & Sohne. This particular collection brings an amount of levity to the anniversary, particularly when compared to some of the more sober releases to bear the title.

Under the beautiful color executions you’ll find the Tangente 38 date model, which measures 38mm in diameter and just 6.8mm in thickness. A long lug creates a 47.7mm lug to lug distance, and the case itself is quite flat, but the watch still wears effortlessly thanks to the svelte dimensions and woven textile strap.

This Tangente collection is a beautiful sight to behold as a group, and the color schemes are inspiring all on their own. As far as celebrating something innocuous goes, this is the most Nomos way to go about it, and that’s what makes these watches so special.

Nomos will produce 175 examples of each of the 31 colorways, which will be priced at $2,310. Nomos
