Earlier this week, Tudor announced a new partnership with Inter Miami CF, the soccer club owned in part by Tudor ambassador, David Beckham, and the new home of superstar forward, Lionel Messi. In celebration of this relationship, Tudor is releasing a new Black Bay Chronograph featuring a pink dial, a nod to the jerseys worn by Inter Miami. This isn’t the only occurrence of pink within Tudor’s stable of partnerships, as they also sponsor the Giro d’Italia, one of the Grand Tours in the professional cycling circuit, known for the maglia rosa, or “pink jersey” that represents victory at the Giro. The latest Black Bay Chronograph serves as the nexus for this pink theme, and what it represents in these respective sports.
The use of pink here, and by the representative athletes, is a tie in to Tudor’s Born to Dare manifesto, and never settling for the status quo. They aren’t afraid to stand apart from the crowd, and carve their own path. Pink represents that spirit, and they readily acknowledge that it won’t be for everyone. Tudor claims that “only a small number of examples will be produced.” This will undoubtedly fuel demand around the watch, and I suspect that the number of enthusiasts ready and willing to rock this color isn’t as small as they might imagine.
The watch begins with the same Black Bay Chronograph we first saw introduced back in 2017, (and again in 2021 with a ceramic bezel), and which has seen a range of variations introduced in the subsequent years. To date, the only dial colors offered have been black, white, and gold. That changes with the addition of this pink dial variation, which gets black accents in the ceramic bezel insert, and the dual sub dials at 3 and 9 o’clock. A few small hits of red appear as well in the timing seconds hand and at the bottom of the dial. The base pink itself appears soft, almost desaturated, and works surprisingly well in this package.
The steel case remains 41mm in diameter, and 14.4mm thick, housing Tudor’s own automatic chronograph caliber MT5813. The case is mounted to a 5 link steel bracelet, a first for the collection which usually comes on an oyster style bracelet. This clasp gets Tudor’s T-fit clasp for making small adjustments on the fly. The bracelet works here and I suspect will be a popular option for existing BB Chronograph owners. There are polished center sections, which accent the polished bits along the case.
This release comes just weeks before Watches & Wonders, and may signal the addition of a new bracelet style added to the Black Bay Chronograph collection. This release also reaffirms their commitment to honoring their partnerships with watch releases, having done so with the Red Bull Alinghi racing team in 2 new FXD watches, as well as another Black Bay Chronograph made for their pro cycling team that never saw public release. You’ll likely be reminded of their recent announcement of a partnership with the Visa Cash App Racing Bulls F1 team, and how that might manifest in the form of a special release. Here’s hoping it involves more carbon similar to the RB Alinghi FXD watches released last year.
There is no mention of exactly how many of these will be produced, but if they’re going out of their way to state publicly that it will be “few” I’d recommend not wasting any time in phoning your local AD if you fancy a look at one. The price is set at $5,675, just a touch more than a standard model on a bracelet. More from Tudor.
