Seiko Letting Fans Decide How to Celebrate 60 Years of Divers

Seiko has a bit of a thing for anniversaries. It’s an easy thing to be cynical about, as overindulgence can rob all meaning of the word, but this year offers a serious milestone for the brand, and they’re letting the fans decide which direction to go. The modern 62MAS style Prospex diver was a revelation when it was first released back in 2020 with a selection of SPB references that drew heavy inspiration from Seiko’s iconic diver. We’ve seen myriad renditions on the formula in the years since, and with 2025 marking the 60th anniversary of the 62MAS itself, Seiko is letting fans vote on the colorway they’d like to see next brought to life in.

Original Seiko 62MAS

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen a brand directly engage the community to decide the fate of an upcoming watch. TAG Heuer famously left it to the enthusiast community to dictate how they’d bring back that Autavia back in 2016. Seiko isn’t going quite that far (though it does make me wonder what would have resulted if they’d taken a similar route with this watch as a whole back in 2020), but they are providing a selection of four possible colorways for fans to vote on. Unlike the original 62MAS, all four of the options are, well, quite colorful in nature.

From now through the end of the month of July, fans will be able to vote on their color preference for the 60th anniversary of the 62MAS: yellow, blue, green, and red. The four colors offer a rather visually distinctive take on the usually sober dive watch, and if I’m being completely honest, don’t really convey any sort of nod to the original design. In fact, this isn’t even the only anniversary watch meant to celebrate 60 years of dive watches from Seiko. The difference is that this design is the direct descendent of that 62MAS.

The watch itself is based on the core Prospex diver SPB reference with a wave textured dial, marking it as an anniversary design. The colors themselves are meant to evoke the seas as seen interacting with sunlight throughout the day: Sunrise Orange; Daytime Blue; Late Afternoon Green; and Sunset Red. Thematically, they’re in the ballpark, but from a practical standpoint, fall short of the wonderfully simple and practical design of the original.

Like previous SPB Prospex divers, this will get a 300 meter depth rating, and will likely use the Seiko automatic caliber 6R55. The design is kept within the 40mm steel skindiver case with a wide bezel framing the dial. The release is planned for 2026, and you can cast your vote through July 31st, right here. Seiko
