It’s easy to bemoan the saturation of collabs across the landscape of new watch releases, but there’s no denying that many of them work pretty damn well. And at the end of the day, that’s what matters. Timex has had their fair share of great collabs in recent years, and their relationship with clothing retailer Huckberry, has once again yielded something worthy of note. Their last collaborative effort brought us the wonderful Timex Ironman Flix re-issue, and this time, the two move into field watch territory. The result is an ultra-light, titanium field watch with an automatic movement and rugged good looks.
Timex has a well proven track record when it comes to straightforward field watches, and this collab is the latest example of just how well the formula works across a range of design languages. Huckberry has opted for a matte white dial within a 41mm bead-blasted titanium case that prioritizes legibility and on-wrist comfort. The result is a watch that embraces the simple nature of a proper field watch, without a hint of pretension in the process.
The white dial receives printed Arabic numerals marking each hour, with applied indices filled with a teal C3 SuperLuminova taking over for high contrast legibility in low light situations. The hour and minute hand get the same treatment, and in an effort to minimize distractions, the base of the hands are color matched white to match the dial, leading to a very clean look that wears its purpose on its sleeves. A single stylistic choice appears in the form of the broken frame around the date aperture at 3 o’clock. It’s a similar approach as the Timex x James brand field watch collaborations, and it works just as well here, bringing a special touch to the dial as a whole without calling too much attention to itself.
The titanium case measures 41mm in diameter and boasts a 200 meter depth rating. The case may be lightweight, but it still offers plenty of presence on the wrist without going overboard. A flat sapphire crystal sits atop the dial, and keeps the total thickness in check at 12.5mm. It’s not a small watch, but considering the materials and the in-the-middle dimensions, this one should present little to no issues on most wrists out there.
Around back you’ll find an exhibition view to the Miyota movement within, which provides 44 hours of reserve. A closed caseback might make more sense on a watch like this, but it’s a small qualm with an otherwise compelling field watch. And at $375, it’s tough to complain too much. This field watch is available exclusively from Huckberry, and ships with two interchangeable TIDE nylon straps in blue and olive. Huckberry
