The Deep Track Podcast: Ep. 8 – Material Science with Black Badger (James Thompson)

This week we welcome James Thompson, aka Black Badger to the podcast to talk about material science, industrial design, and watches. James specializes in bringing exotic materials to life in interesting ways, and has collaborated with the likes of George Bamford, DeBethune, MB&F, and more. These days, James is developing dials for Arcanaut, with their Arc II Fordite being a main topic of discussion here. We also delve into his past, and how he derives inspiration from the world around him.

Seen above is a Fordite Ripple Mill dial in the process of production. This process allows Arcanaut to carve topographical patterns into Fordite itself, which gives it a remarkable sense of depth and texture when fully finished. The ARC II Fordite Ripple Mill can be ordered directly from Arcanaut right here, keep in mind that each dial will be entirely unique.
