Nodus has revealed a third generation of the Contrail GMT this week utilizing the flier style Miyota 9075 movement. The collection of travel watches welcomes two new colorways in the process, but the real draw here is a redesigned case that measures under 12mm in thickness, placing it among the thinnest case executions hosting this movement to be released. Nodus has proven adept at doing just this, as the new Contrail GMT shares similar dimensions with the widely popular Trailtrekker releases earlier this year, at 40.5mm in diameter, and 11.8mm in thickness. The Contrail GMT brings a few other features to the table as well, offering a few different flavors of the new Contrail design DNA.
As impressive as the case dimensions are, it’s the new dial and bezel offers that will be the first to draw your attention. There are 4 colorways being offered here, including two classics in the sandy Laguna and black, white, and red Terra. Two new colors bring their own distinct personalities to the table as well, they are Impulse Blue, and Polaris. Together, three different dial textures are represented, including the heavily grained dials of the original colorways, along with a sunburst texture in the Impulse Blue dial, and a clean matte white dial in the Polaris.
The dials are accented by sapphire bi-tone bezel inserts. Polaris and Terra feature black over white, while Impulse Blue uses blue over white. Lugana uses a subtle black over gray color scheme, pushing the focal point inward toward the light grainy brown dial. Each option presents a unique vision of the design with plenty of fun details to discover, from the shape of the tip of the GMT hand, to the way that the date discs have been color matched to the dials, including the printed numbers aligning with the accent colors.
These watches represent an impressive amount of detail at every corner, something especially appreciated in the sub $1,000 price range. These are the kinds of watches that have a way of resetting how we see value in other watches, and will hopefully serve to push competitors in the space both up and down the food chain.
Each of the watches are offered on a flat three link bracelet that gets Nodus’ own NodeX clasp quick adjust system that operates with the push of a button. The bracelet is affixed with a quick release spring bar making strap swaps a breeze, and knowing these watches I suspect that that is something you’ll want to be doing often. If the Traitrekker was a little too far off the beaten path, these new Contrail GMTs might be just the ticket. Pricing is set at $825 with shipping to begin next week. Nodus
