Farer welcomes a pair of new additions to their chronograph range with familiar colorways applied to a new configuration for the complication. Fans of the UK based brand will immediately recognize the names Cobb and Segrave, which are now being brought into their third iteration within a set of monopusher chronographs that welcome a GMT hand into the mix. The result is a pair of watches that adhere to a well established brand DNA while at the same time bring something new and fresh to the table to enjoy. These new monopusher chronographs represent a new execution based in foundational colorways.
The new watches are Cobb III and the Segrave III, each a Monopusher GMT. The Cobb offers the familiar light blue sunray dial accented by deep blues, oranges, and yellows; while the Segrave sets orange, green, and blue against a rich black base. In typical Farer fashion, each is treated with a fair amount of autonomy, featuring two different layouts to the same set of complications. This approach lends to the special feeling Farer manages elicit with their releases, as each colorway is given a certain amount of thought and respect, making even multiple watches within the same collection feel new and exciting.
The Cobb III sets its running seconds hand and minute totalizer at 9 and 12 o’clock respectively, creating an asymmetric layout that’s balance by a date aperture at 3 o’clock, and the Farer signage that’s been moved to the bottom portion of the dial. Conversely, the Segrave III stacks the sub dials at 12 and 6 o’clock, and uses a color matched date disc at 3 o’clock to keep a more uniform appearance. The 24 hour scale is placed within the rehaut of both watches, but the manner in which they’ve been executed is quite different. The creamy white contrasting ring in the Cobb III hosts a variety of the colors found elsewhere on the dial, while the Segrave III takes a more traditional split layout with black on the top and white at the bottom to differentiate day from night.
Each of these watches is using a Sellita SW530 M MP hand wound movement set within a 41mm cushion style case that measures 14.5mm in thickness. The case walls are curved to match the profile of the wrist, and they feature a “harlequin” pattern engraving that brings another level of visual interest to the case when viewed at an angle. Farer offers these watches with over a dozen strap and bracelet options allowing you to dial in the look to your liking, and while there are some lovely St Venere leather straps on option, the steel mesh feels appropriate here to my eye.
The new Farer Monopusher GMT watches are in pre-order now, each priced from $2,195 on leather, and $2,210 on steel. Farer
