Farer takes a consistent evolutionary approach to their collections, with constant refinements that push their design concepts into new and interesting territory. Such is the case with their latest trio of new field watches, which builds on the design codes and practical feature set of previous generations. In true Farer style, they serve up their latest field watch in three distinct flavors that go beyond dial color, and there are plenty of fun small details to discover in each. Their names will sound familiar, with stories moored in UK based lore, and they are about as capable all-rounders as you’re likely to come across in this space.
The new collection comprises sequels: the Pembroke II; the Lomond II; and the Exmoor II – each of which have pre-established color codes and personality traits that have been incorporated here. All three are time and date watches using the Sellita SW221-1 movement, which places the date around the dial’s perimeter to be tracked via fourth hand mounted at the center hand stack (aka, a pointer date). They are each 38mm in diameter and 11.7mm in thickness (with a lug to lug distance of 45mm), and that’s about where the similarities end. There is one final detail that they share in common, and that is a rather aggressively textured dial.
Beginning with the Pembroke II, we find a light sandy colored dial with blue and red accents. This is the most subtle of the bunch, with the lume found in the hour markers nearly matching the base color of the dial. The black outlined hands are the most prominent point of contrast here (in daylight, at least), making this the most versatile for strap pairings of your choice (which Farer is happy to offer you).
Next is the Lomond II, which uses a deep navy colored dial beset with light sandy colored lume at the hour markers. This dial gets prominant 3, 6, and 9 o’clock hour markers that hits an old-school vibe perfectly. Red accents break things up in an unexpected way here, which, along with the typeface stylings and well considered spacing, add to that Farer character, which is well presented here.
Finally, the Exmoor II represents the most classic take on the field watch, which each hour clearly represented with its own Arabic numeral standing in stark contrast to the deep green dial color. It’s highly legible, and about as straightforward as you can get. That makes this one the best candidate for the use of bright accent colors, which Farer has done with yellow, orange, and light blue hues to define the smaller details.
All three of these watches bring something unique to the table, and all are distinctly Farer in their DNA. This new collection represents a step forward in their approach to the genre, with more refined proportions and design cues, all done without compromising that unique identity. For that, these watches represent a welcome evolution from Farer.
