Oris Reveals New Caliber 400 Powered Divers Sixty Five in 38mm

Oris is returning to their Divers Sixty Five collection heading into the summer, with a pair of new references that take very different approaches to the color green. The more vibrant of the two finally establishes a 38mm Divers Sixty Five in steel housing a no-date caliber 400 into the regular production collection. This watch sets a new tone that I wouldn’t be surprised to see them build on, with a bright dial and a bezel insert that matches the case. This is exactly the kind of watch many have been waiting for, and while we’ll have to continue waiting for more run of the mill dial colors, this example kicks things off with personality.

The approach of summer heralds many a colorful watch release, and Oris is no exception here with a deep green dial atop a subtle sunburst texture. The monotone bezel insert allows the dial to have maximum visual impact, and a high level of contrast between its constituent components. The result is interesting, taking the watch slightly outside of its ‘classic dive watch’ comfort zone, shifting a bit toward fun casual wear with a glossy sheen on it. It’s a handsome watch, as most Divers Sixty Five references are, but it doesn’t quite adhere to its roots as much as other examples.

This shows the versatility of this collection, which has been taken in a number of directions in recent years. This is a natural extension of that work, and oddly enough, it works perfectly well. It’s a look we first saw in the Chronos edition Divers Sixty Five. This watch still relies on genre archetypes, but doesn’t take itself too seriously. They’ve got plenty of other options if that’s what you’re looking for, and I’d love to see them embrace this platform with a 12 hour bezel variation that we’ve seen in 40mm guise prior.

This Divers Sixty Five is using Oris’ own caliber 400, with 5 days of power reserve and anti-magnetic components in the escapement. It is visible through an exhibition caseback, where it presents as quite sober in appearance, underlying its straightforward, utilitarian nature. Yes, the bear easter egg remains when the rotor lines up just right. Extended use of this movement is welcome, though it does come at a premium compared to their red rotor Sellita based references.

The Divers Sixty Five with green dial and caliber 400 is priced at $3,900 on its steel, three link bracelet. It’s worth noting that Oris offers a 10 year warranty on this movement when buyers sign up for their MyOris program for free. Oris
